The American Civil War was fought on the issue of states rights versus those of the Federal Government. The larger issue focused on the question of slavery.
The 1860 U.S. election, led to Abraham Lincoln winning the seat; President Abraham Lincoln, an anti-slavery candidate.
1861 – Outbreak of the American Civil War
1863 – Emancipation Proclamation ends slavery in the United States.
1865 – Abraham Lincoln assassinated on 15th April by John Wilkes Booth, at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, thus bringing an end to the American Civil War.
